A tree has fallen…

It’s been 3 years watching my favorite tree in my back yard slowly die and decided to cut it down in case it fell toward my house.  It happened a while ago but thought I would share.  A friend and I cut it down with a double bladed axe… We felt like lumberjacks, but didn’t dress in women’s clothing, “Just like my dear mamma”!

Retro PC Game Nostalgia

Hey there retro games,

Recently I decided to play a game from my past that had always put a smile on my face when I was young.  Doom II…  I purchased this game during a family trip to Saskatoon and may I say, I was totally pumped to play it.  When I got home I rushed upstairs to play this thing.  After 4 hours of being enthralled with the graphics, sound, and game play, my mom came upstairs and knocked on the door.

“Are you coming out for supper?”

I reluctantly paused the game, ate supper and came back to a game I will never forget.

Wolfenstein (on a 3.5″) had nothing on this, though that was a great game too.  But that is another story.

Hope it sparks some memories.

Take care,

CC.

P.S.  Finding this game in with a “Made in Canada” sticker on the back made me smile…

Jazzberry Ram… Oh the memories of High School

My sister got me onto these guys during High School. Thought I would share. Super Fishy Allah Tea is my favourite album of these guys, which I lost years ago and have been trying to find ever since. I guess I’ll have to buy it again… Hmmm, I wonder if they released it on Vinyl…

The Current Education System and The Overuse of Ritalin

The RSA.org has a wealth of information on a multitude of topics.

This lecture was done by Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert. He makes some very good points throughout the lecture. One that sparked my attention was that the over prescription of Ritalin to combat the so-called ADHD epidemic is wrong and unnecessary.

Take a look, it’s worth it.

Cheers,

Atlas of Canada 1st Edition

I was snooping around the Government of Canada’s website the other day and stumbled upon the Atlas of Canada site. They have the full Atlas (Editions 1 through 5) available free for download. It’s very cool to look at what the country looked like in the early 1900’s. Some of the maps have disputed Canadian and American Borders, Explorer Routes, etc.

It’s worth a look if you’re into Canadian history or just like old maps.

Internet Usage Based Billing In Canada. My Thoughts. Yours?

Stop Usage Based Billing in Canada

Stop Usage Based Billing in Canada

Okay, here is my rant about what the CRTC approved about Usage Based Billing (UBB).

I’m living in rural Alberta with no highspeed options aside from an aircard or satellite.  Which, by the way, are expensive and not very reliable from my experiences.

Here’s the CRTC post regarding usage based billing. Telecom Decision CRTC 2011-44t

Usage Based Billing is what I anticipated years ago, yet I’m still upset about it.  The reason I’m upset is that I love the internet and its capabilities. (Helping people to be be informed of civil unrest, wartime atrocities, corrupt politicians, Youtube, or watching funny videos on failblog.org)

Uploading pics and videos of me and my friends having fun together, whether to share with them or anyone on this lovely planet is WAY MORE gratifying than waiting for a new show to air on TV.  It doesn’t seem to connect me to my friends as much.

I wonder what this guy would think about UBB if he were alive today…

Alexander Graham Bell Phoning the CRTC to say "Usage Based Billing Blows!"

I like television shows and movies, don’t get me wrong, they make me smile every day and the people that work in the film industry work hard to bring us quality programming (aside from the annoying ads…)

The biggest reason I’m upset is that why do we now have to pay extra to connect with my family and friends, just because the communication infrastructure here in Canada can’t possible cope with the current demands…  The fact that the big ISP’s spearheaded this is making me think of sending the CRTC a written letter to complain… It’s going to be on a typewriter or even handwritten.   I figured I would “Do Them A Kindness” and save them a couple of bucks on bandwidth…  Maybe I’ll get a response, maybe not.  Thoughts?

Here’s a link for a few blogs against UBB, haven’t read a lot of it, at least we’re starting to blog about it.
